Music at Our Savior

It is good to praise the LORD and make music to your name, O Most High.
Psalm 92:1

Our Savior Lutheran’s Music Ministry offers many choral opportunities. Anyone in high school or older may participate in choir. All we ask is that you make the commitment and sing or ring to God’s glory each week.

Jubilate Choir is our adult choir. They meet on Thursdays from 7:00 p.m. to 8:15 p.m. They work hard but have a lot of fun. Jubilate sings often and at all major festivals of the church. All members are invited to join their voices with ours as we proclaim that He is “King of Kings and Lord of Lords!”

Laudate Choir is our women’s choir who practice on the 2nd and 4th Sundays after Bible class.

Laetare is an a capella quartet who sings parts of our service liturgy with the Jubilate Choir. They sing anthems occasionally throughout the year and practice when needed.

Carillon Ringers is our large handbell choir. They meet on Thursdays from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. No prior musical knowledge is necessary to join this choir. Bells play at all major festivals of the church. If you have ever wanted to learn to play an instrument, now is your chance.

Cantate is our instrumental group.  They meet on the 1st and 3rd Sundays after Bible class. Play a musical instrument? There is always room for more!

Pipe Organ

Our organ is a Rodgers combination digital and pipe organ. In total, it is 70 ranks with 10 ranks being true pipe and 60 ranks being digitally sampled. It has four manuals and a full pedal board. We chose a combination organ because the humidity of our area is very hard in keeping a constant temperature. This causes the pipe to go out of tune unless the room has been brought to the desired temperature. The digital sounds of course are not affected by this. Therefore, to fill the room and give us the greatest sense of variety we chose, after much discussion with the Rodgers Company, to go with this combination.

The organ features a wide variety of sounds to enhance the worship setting. From the softest “celeste” to the grand “trumpet en chamade,” our organ can convey any mood reflective of the season. In addition to the regular stops, our organ was also installed with MIDI capabilities. This adds even greater variety to the things we can do.

The organ was custom built in the Neo-Classic style to fit into the architecture and worship style of Our Savior Lutheran Church. The pipe chamber is able to house up to 40 more ranks should we ever decide to replace the digital samplings. The organ is in the center of the church behind the pulpit symbolizing the importance of music in worship. From here the great hymns of the faith are played and heard by everyone in attendance.

“If you would like to be part of a growing, exciting and busy ministry here at Our Savior, then I would invite you to consider the Music Ministry. Joining one of our groups is a great way to meet new people, rebuild relationships of people that you have known for some time and most of all help to lead our worship through God’s gift of music.”  --  Jeff Armstrong, Minister of Music
