A Faith That Stands

4 And the herald proclaimed aloud, “You are commanded, O peoples, nations, and languages, 5 that when you hear the sound of the horn, pipe, lyre, trigon, harp, bagpipe, and every kind of music, you are to fall down and worship the golden image that King Nebuchadnezzar has set up. 6 And whoever does not fall down and worship shall immediately be cast into a burning fiery furnace.” 7 Therefore, as soon as all the peoples heard the sound of the horn, pipe, lyre, trigon, harp, bagpipe, and every kind of music, all the peoples, nations, and languages fell down and worshiped the golden image that King Nebuchadnezzar had set up.

A Faith That Stands
The command was clear, bow or burn. As the music played, the crowd obeyed, falling before the golden image. Fear of the king’s wrath led them to worship an idol rather than stand for the truth. The world still demands our worship. It calls us to bow to false gods, power, pleasure, acceptance, threatening rejection or worse if we refuse. Yet, like Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, we are called to stand firm in faith. Christ stood firm for us. He did not bow to Satan’s temptations but walked the path of the cross, bearing the world’s wrath to deliver us. Because of His victory, we need not fear the threats of the world. Whether we stand in the fire or before kings, we belong to Christ.
