The King Is Coming
Zechariah 9:9
Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion!
Shout aloud, O daughter of Jerusalem!
Behold, your king is coming to you;
righteous and having salvation is he,
humble and mounted on a donkey,
on a colt, the foal of a donkey.

The King Is Coming
Advent is not just the time of the church year in which we rejoice in the birth of our Savior, but it is also the time in which we look forward to our Lord’s second coming. We know we have a Savior in Christ unlike any other. Worldly kings display their wealth and power in the form of golden thrones and jeweled crowns. Our heavenly King sat upon a donkey and had the twisted branches of a thorn bush for His crown.
Yet in seeming defeat, the King of kings reigns supreme. He destroyed the power of sin, death, and the devil on the cross so we might receive crowns of our own as fellow heirs in His Kingdom. It is with shouts of thanksgiving and praise we lift our voices to the heavens knowing, just as His first prophesied advent was fulfilled, His second and final advent is still to come. As we await our King’s final coming in clouds of victory, we share the good news of Christ crucified for all. For our triumphant King brings grace, mercy, salvation, and peace.
