Warhorses
Do you give the horse his might? Do you clothe his neck with a mane? Do you make him leap like the locust? His majestic snorting is terrifying. He paws in the valley and exults in his strength; he goes out to meet the weapons. He laughs at fear and is not dismayed; he does not turn back from the sword. Upon him rattle the quiver, the flashing spear, and the javelin. With fierceness and rage he swallows the ground; he cannot stand still at the sound of the trumpet. When the trumpet sounds, he says ‘Aha!’ He smells the battle from afar, the thunder of the captains, and the shouting.

Warhorses
The horse is a noble and majestic creature. It has captured the imaginations of people from the beginning. Statues and monuments have been erected in honor of the great beasts. Since the fall all of creation suffers and men have waged war against one another to this very day. And in our sinfulness, we use God’s creatures for our own evil means. The warhorse has run headlong into battle from the beginning, not understanding why they must do so, but spurred on by their rider, they give their lives so that sinful man may triumph. And though we can train these animals to do our bidding, we cannot create their power and majesty. That comes from God. He alone is the creator of all that is good. And on that last day of history, our Lord Jesus will come on His own powerful warhorse. “Then I saw heaven opened, and behold, a white horse! The one sitting on it is called Faithful and True, and in righteousness he judges and makes war…. He is clothed in a robe dipped in blood, and the name by which he is called is The Word of God” (Revelation 19:11,13). This image of our triumphant Lord Jesus reminds us that He is in control, and it is through His blood that we are washed clean. Even though Christ humbled Himself to the point of death on the cross He did not forsake His people. His victory was seen in the empty tomb and the final victory will be seen as He comes for the last time to destroy sin, death, and the devil forever.
