The Behemoth
Behold, Behemoth, which I made as I made you; he eats grass like an ox. Behold, his strength in his loins, and his power in the muscles of his belly. He makes his tail stiff like a cedar; the sinews of his thighs are knit together. His bones are tubes of bronze, his limbs like bars of iron.

The Behemoth
In these verses, we are introduced to a rather strange beast. The Hebrew word translated as behemoth is better understood as beast. This beast as it is described by God is quite unusual to us there is no indication that Job is not unaware of this creature. No matter the identity of this beast the point is clear, God’s creation in all its wonder is beyond our total comprehension. He has created a world in which we do not understand completely, yet it is all for our benefit. He has made this world for the benefit of us all so that we would know it is God who provides for us. Tragically, our sin has destroyed our knowledge of God. We no longer look to Him as our source of all which is good. Our sin has turned His creation into an advisory which we struggle against (Genesis 3:17-19). And the deadliest beast of this land seeks us out to destroy us (1 Peter 5:8). The devil uses every trick he can think of to turn us from God. But this beast is no match for God. One little word can fell him. On the cross, Jesus said, “It is finished” (John 19:30). And with these words, Satan was conquered. God showed us that He is in charge and will do what has to be done to protect His children. In the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus, we are brought back into a relationship with our Father. The Holy Spirit gives us faith to know and believe this and so we rest secure in our faith.
