Things Too Wonderful
Who is this that hides counsel without knowledge? Therefore I have uttered what I did not understand, things too wonderful for me, which I did not know.

Things Too Wonderful
The opening verses of the book of Job tell us that he was a “blameless and upright” man, “who feared God and turned away from evil.” Yet in his suffering he blames God, in his pride he assumes to be able to justify himself before the Lord, and in his anger, he accused God of being his enemy. Yet God did not abandon Job or leave him in his wretched state. In His response to Job God showed him and us that God is God, and we are not. There are things we do not comprehend and yet this does not mean that God is aloof when it comes to our suffering and pain. Job needed to learn this and so do we. And in this knowledge, we can confess that there are indeed things too wonderful for us to know. Yet what we do need to know God has revealed to us. He has revealed His plan of salvation through His Son our Lord, Jesus Christ. God has shown us the cross and the empty tomb so that we know to what lengths He went to save us. In faith, we are given strength through His Word and Sacraments. We are given a foretaste of the things to come at His altar in, with, and under the bread and wine. Things too wonderful to completely understand yet freely given to all the faithful.
