What Tomorrow Brings
Come now, you who say, “Today or tomorrow we will go into such and such a town and spend a year there and trade and make a profit”— yet you do not know what tomorrow will bring. What is your life? For you are a mist that appears for a little time and then vanishes. Instead you ought to say, “If the Lord wills, we will live and do this or that.” As it is, you boast in your arrogance. All such boasting is evil. So whoever knows the right thing to do and fails to do it, for him it is sin.
James 4:13–17

What Tomorrow Brings
It has often been said that if you want to make God laugh, tell Him your plans. So often we believe that we are in control of our lives. That ultimately it is we who decide on our future. The truth is none of us are guaranteed a tomorrow and should therefore live lives in accordance with this truth. That is not to say that we approach life in a caviler devil-may-care attitude, but that we recognize each day for what it is, a blessing from God. We should never forget to pray each morning because God did not forget to wake us up. Your life is a gift from our creator and should be lived accordingly. Your life is so important to God that He sent His only Son Jesus Christ to die for you so that you could live. Planning for our future is not bad in and of itself, so long as those plans don’t push aside God’s will. In faith, we go forth each day in the confidence that the Lord cares for us. And if we ever begin to doubt God’s love and care for our lives, simply look to the cross. There you will find assurance, forgiveness, and life.
