Apostolic Salutation
Peter, an apostle of Jesus Christ,
To those who are elect exiles of the Dispersion in Pontus, Galatia, Cappadocia, Asia, and Bithynia, according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, in the sanctification of the Spirit, for obedience to Jesus Christ and for sprinkling with his blood: May grace and peace be multiplied to you.
1 Peter 1:1–2

Apostolic Salutation
Grace is a free gift. It should be redundant to say free gift, but many false teachers have tried to tie down Christians with requirements on the grace they preach. Grace is entirely a gift, and it is not deserved. It is not earned. If it were deserved or earned, then it wouldn’t be a gift. Likewise, mercy is not getting what you deserve. Peter begins by preaching grace—the free gift of Jesus’ forgiveness and the mercy that the cross delivers to you. No matter where you are, the Word goes out to you. Those of the great dispersion, to those in Israel, to those in the United States, the grace and peace of Jesus’ cross is for you. His blood has made you righteous.
