Born of God

And now, little children, abide in him, so that when he appears we may have confidence and not shrink from him in shame at his coming. If you know that he is righteous, you may be sure that everyone who practices righteousness has been born of him.

Born of God
What does it mean to be born of God? John tells us that because the Holy Spirit has given us faith Christ abides in us. We are righteous not because of our own merits but because of what Christ has done for us. His death and resurrection have freed us from the bondage to sin, death, and the devil. In Jesus’ baptism in the Jordan river, He took our sins upon Himself and carried them to the cross. And on that cross, our sins died. And while Christ took our sins, He gave us His righteousness, a righteousness we receive in our own baptisms. And it is in the water and Word of Holy Baptism that we are made new, born again, as children of God. In your Baptismal promise rest forgiveness, salvation, and life eternal, because Christ has made it so.
