Final Greetings
Though I have much to write to you, I would rather not use paper and ink. Instead I hope to come to you and talk face to face, so that our joy may be complete. The children of your elect sister greet you.

Final Greetings
No one could see the Almighty face to face and live. The sheer glory of God would kill him. Sinners cannot stand in the presence of God and live. His wrath is too great and his power too much for us to handle. There was no way we could save ourselves. Dear Christian, God’s very essence is love and he would not let you be destroyed by your own sin. He sends his own Son in the flesh of man to seek and save that which was lost. He beckons sinful man to be cleansed in the blood of the Son of God and live in his presence forevermore. But that wasn’t it. He binds up his holy people as one people. He makes us members of Christ and members of one another. So much in this world separates and divides. Jesus brings together. John longs to see his fellow believers face to face. We, too, find delight and comfort when we greet our fellow believers face to face. God’s great work to forgive and give salvation and life is given us as we gather as his holy people around Word preached and sacraments given. Thanks be to God, he has brought us together.
