The word of the LORD that came to Micah of Moresheth in the days of Jotham, Ahaz, and Hezekiah, kings of Judah, which he saw concerning Samaria and Jerusalem.

Who Is Like the Lord?
            The Lord came to His prophet Micah during the reigns of Jotham, Ahaz, and Hezekiah. These were days of turmoil and upheaval. God’s people were turning their backs on His Word, the political situation was unstable, social injustice was rampant, and there was a general sense of moral degradation. The prophet’s name means “Who is like the Lord” and it reminds us that none of us measure up when compared to the holiness of our Lord. The Lord’s indictment of Israel challenges them as well as us to see ourselves in view of God’s Holy Law. This is not always a welcomed experience, since we all fall short of it. As Micah challenges and shames Israel for their faithless and ungrateful attitudes toward God, it creates guilt and the fear of punishment. Yet Micah shows the important role that leaders play in God’s design. Those leaders in families, congregations, and society are to continuously bring God’s Word to those they have been placed over. As we listen to the words of God given to the prophet Micah, consider how you depend on others and how God has placed people under your care or in your sphere of influence. See, ultimately, that all you have and all you are flows from His merciful goodness. Although we look to one another for help, there is no one like the Lord, who alone died for you so that we might have life in Him.
