Look to the Lord
Woe is me! For I have become as when the summer fruit has been gathered, as when the grapes have been gleaned: there is no cluster to eat, no first-ripe fig that my soul desires. The godly has perished from the earth, and there is no one upright among mankind; they all lie in wait for blood, and each hunts the other with a net. Their hands are on what is evil, to do it well; the prince and the judge ask for a bribe, and the great man utters the evil desire of his soul; thus they weave it together. The best of them is like a brier, the most upright of them a thorn hedge. The day of your watchmen, of your punishment, has come; now their confusion is at hand. Put no trust in a neighbor; have no confidence in a friend; guard the doors of your mouth from her who lies in your arms; for the son treats the father with contempt, the daughter rises up against her mother, the daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law; a man’s enemies are the men of his own house. But as for me, I will look to the LORD; I will wait for the God of my salvation; my God will hear me.

Look to the Lord
When the prophet Micah looks out upon the people of God, he saw nothing redeeming about them. They were like a barren vineyard, with no fruit left on the vines. Nothing but emptiness and rotting seeds. He felt alone and isolated. It seemed as if all of God’s people had fled to the hills to escape the wickedness or had joined in on it. What could he do? He would speak the truth even if it was unpopular. As Christians living in an unbelieving world, at some level, we can relate to Micah. The country we once knew looks nothing like it once did. Lawlessness and wickedness prevail. Greed and selfishness are the dominant attitudes. Often times we want to escape the wickedness, but even more so, our sinful natures join in. What are we to do? Just as Micah did so to do we look to the Lord. He is our strength and our refuge. In Him, we find a safe harbor from the wickedness of this world. In Him, we find forgiveness for our many sins. We look to the cross and know that our salvation has come and God hears our pleas for mercy and forgiveness.
