Waiting for an Answer
Are you not from everlasting, O LORD my God, my Holy One? We shall not die. O LORD, you have ordained them as a judgment, and you, O Rock, have established them for reproof. You who are of purer eyes than to see evil and cannot look at wrong, why do you idly look at traitors and remain silent when the wicked swallows up the man more righteous than he? You make mankind like the fish of the sea, like crawling things that have no ruler. He brings all of them up with a hook; he drags them out with his net; he gathers them in his dragnet; so he rejoices and is glad. Therefore he sacrifices to his net and makes offerings to his dragnet; for by them he lives in luxury, and his food is rich. Is he then to keep on emptying his net and mercilessly killing nations forever? I will take my stand at my watchpost and station myself on the tower, and look out to see what he will say to me, and what I will answer concerning my complaint.

Waiting for an Answer
It is often difficult to understand God’s ways. Especially when they don’t seem to make any sense to us, and seemingly go contrary to who God is. This is not an uncommon theme throughout God’s Word, and it certainly applies to Habakkuk here. Like others of great faith, Habakkuk argues and wrestles with God, waiting for answers to explain God’s incomprehensible ways. Unlike us, however, who are all too often quick to anger and slow to forgive, Habakkuk does not lose patience but waits to hear what God will say. The Lord promises to never neglect His people and to always answer those who call upon Him, though in His own time and manner. And in these latter days, He answers us through His Word. God’s Word is the light for our path, which gives us all the answers we need. His Word reveals the truth of who He is and what He has done for us. His Word, Christ Jesus, is His plan for our salvation. And in Him, it is accomplished. When we are troubled, we cry to God for wisdom and understanding, knowing He hears our prayer for the sake of Christ Jesus, His only Son, our Savior.
