Where is Your Trust?

Woe to her who is rebellious and defiled, the oppressing city! She listens to no voice; she accepts no correction. She does not trust in the LORD; she does not draw near to her God. Her officials within her are roaring lions; her judges are evening wolves that leave nothing till the morning. Her prophets are fickle, treacherous men; her priests profane what is holy; they do violence to the law. The LORD within her is righteous; he does no injustice; every morning he shows forth his justice; each dawn he does not fail; but the unjust knows no shame.
Zephaniah 3:1–5

Where is Your Trust?
To have a god is to put all your trust in something. Everyone trusts in something. Everyone has a god. The Living God, the Triune God, is jealous to have your trust. He remains constantly righteous despite the evil that we design and the evil we worship. Our enemies use lies and deceit to lure and entice us away from the truth. Once we have fallen after these false gods, we stop our ears up and refuse to listen. Our false worship is centered on a refusal to listen to anyone. The Living God will not give up on you. He remains in your midst. He finds himself dwelling where you are. He who created you has the power to open your ears and create again in the barren places of our lives. What does he create? He creates a clean heart and a right spirit. He plants faith and makes alive. He makes ears to hear and lips to sing his praise. Thus, he focuses your senses on this Jesus. He puts his cross before your eyes and his Word in your ears. Every morning his mercies never fail. He shows forth his justice as he destroys your sin. Every evening his grace is sufficient. He never fails. He always saves. He who has ears to hear, let him hear…and rejoice.
