Living Water
On that day living waters shall flow out from Jerusalem, half of them to the eastern sea and half of them to the western sea. It shall continue in summer as in winter. Zechariah 14:8
Living Water
“If you knew the gift of God, and who it is that is saying to you, ‘Give me a drink,’ you would have asked him, and he would have given you living water.” Thus far Jesus speaking to the Samaritan woman. The water of Jesus never ends. We call it living water because it comes from the living God. The water that you need is the water that Jesus gives. It flows from a hill outside of Jerusalem. It is that which we are baptized into. That water testifies to you and to the world that this Jesus is the Son of God and that he has paid the price for the sins of the world. Therefore, this water wells up to eternal life for you. It washes, not dirt, but sin. It marks you as a child of God against all your enemies. There is no end to the safety and comfort that this water gives you. Saint Paul would remind you of the great power of these living waters, “Don’t you know that those of us who have been baptized into Christ Jesus have been baptized into his death? …and if we have been united with him into a death like his, we will certainly be united with him into a resurrection like his. God, your Lord, unites with you.
