Remember
“Remember the law of my servant Moses, the statutes and rules that I commanded him at Horeb for all Israel.

Remember
What does it mean to remember? In this verse God’s people are called upon to remember the law of God’s servant Moses. The priests were not faithful servants because they did not teach the Law as Moses had. The statutes and rules that God commanded had been abandoned by them. God commanded Moses to teach all Israel His statutes and rules and these laws remained valid even in Malachi’s day. We likewise are to remember God’s Holy Law. First and foremost, “You shall have no other Gods.” In this we are to fear, love, and trust in God above all things. But how often do we forget this, as we go chasing after the false gods of this world! But even in our sinfulness God has not abandoned us. He continues to come to us in His Law and Gospel. He comes to us in His Word and Sacraments. He gave His Son, Christ Jesus, so that we might not perish. So, we remember with joy and thanksgiving all that He has done for us. We remember the cross and cling tightly to it. We remember the empty tomb and the victory in it. And every day we remember pray, praise, and give thanks for all God has done for us.
