It Takes a Rock

40 One of the two who heard John speak and followed Jesus was Andrew, Simon Peter’s brother. 41 He first found his own brother Simon and said to him, “We have found the Messiah” (which means Christ). 42 He brought him to Jesus. Jesus looked at him and said, “You are Simon the son of John. You shall be called Cephas” (which means Peter).

It takes a Rock

The good news can’t be held down. The disciples said to the chief priests in the Temple, “Whether it is right in the sight of God to listen to you rather than to God, you must judge, for we cannot but speak of what we have seen and heard” (Acts 4:19). Andrew runs to his brother and tells him that they have found the Christ. The long-promised Messiah has come in the flesh of Mary. This Jesus looks normal, but he is not. He is a man, but he has no sin. He is born under the law to save those under the law. Andrew knows it by faith. He brings his brother, Simon, to the only God and Lord. The Christ has found you, too. The apostles have declared it. The promises of the prophets have come true. The Rock and Foundation of our faith has come. He redeems you from the pit, he forgives you all your sins, he is your God and your Lord. He makes you strong by his death and he calls you alive by his resurrection.
