Roar of the Lion

The roar of the lion, the voice of the fierce lion, the teeth of the young lions are broken. The strong lion perishes for lack of prey, and the cubs of the lioness are scattered.
Job 4:10-11

Roar of the Lion
The roar of a lion which breaks the dark stillness of the night turns blood to ice.  The beast is out on the prowl and seeking its next victim.  All are terrified, all are petrified.  What could ever be so strong as to destroy such a beast? A Lamb! “The devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour.” (1 Peter 5:8) Yet the blood of the Lamb has destroyed the lion.  His teeth are broken, and he perishes.  For it is through sin which Satan lures us away from God and into darkness.  It is through sin, where the devil is able to corrupt God's good gifts. However, when we look to Christ, we see what John the Baptist saw in the Jordan. “Behold, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!” (John 1:29) Our Savior came to give us life and to give it abundantly. Therefore, we do not fear the toothless lion who has no power, because we know:

Worthy is the Lamb whose death makes me His own!
The Lamb is reigning on His throne! (LSB 547)
