Seeking Comfort
When I say, ‘My bed will comfort me, my couch will ease my complaint,’ then you scare me with dreams and terrify me with visions, so that I would choose strangling and death rather than my bones.
Job 7:13-15

Seeking Comfort
At the end of a long, hard day's work, our beds cry out to us. We seek them for refuge as we recover from the days toil. Job seeks this as well. He wants to find just a modicum of relief in his sleep. Yet even in sleep Job finds nothing but nightmares. There is no escape from his current situation it seems. In times like these where does one find comfort? It is certainly not in the things of this world, which fade and rust away. It is only in the eternal Son of God where we can find true comfort. For everything outside of Him will eventually fail us and let us down. But in Christ we have a safe harbor. In Christ we have a refuge from the assaults of the devil, the world, and our own sinful flesh. It is only in Christ where we find true comfort. “Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our affliction, so that we may be able to comfort those who are in any affliction, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God.” (2 Corinthians 1:3-4)
