Courtroom Drama
Tell it not in Gath; weep not at all; in Beth-le-aphrah roll yourselves in the dust. Pass on your way, inhabitants of Shaphir, in nakedness and shame; the inhabitants of Zaanan do not come out; the lamentation of Beth-ezel shall take away from you its standing place. For the inhabitants of Maroth wait anxiously for good, because disaster has come down from the LORD to the gate of Jerusalem. Harness the steeds to the chariots, inhabitants of Lachish; it was the beginning of sin to the daughter of Zion, for in you were found the transgressions of Israel. Therefore you shall give parting gifts to Moresheth-gath; the houses of Achzib shall be a deceitful thing to the kings of Israel. I will again bring a conqueror to you, inhabitants of Mareshah; the glory of Israel shall come to Adullam. Make yourselves bald and cut off your hair, for the children of your delight; make yourselves as bald as the eagle, for they shall go from you into exile.

Courtroom Drama
As the book of Micah opens in this first chapter, it is reminiscent of a courtroom setting. God acts as the witness for the prosecution in the case against His sinful people. The arrogant and prideful peoples are represented by their two capital cities, Samaria and Jerusalem. With God testifying against you there is no defense. His Word is truth. His judgment will come. And His coming will be marked by dramatic signs He forewarned them about. Just as we are reminded us of what will happen on that Last Day of history when He comes again in all His glory. We all should to take to heart what happened to Israel and Judah. Our sinful actions are not hidden from Him, as hard as we may try. They are witnessed by God and deserve His punishment. But in the most profound way, God has shown the depth of His justice in the person of His Son, Christ Jesus, who in love took on Himself God’s just wrath so that we may stand holy and righteous before Him. For this we give thanks and praise to our Savior Jesus Christ, for declaring us righteous and removing all fear of everlasting judgment against us, as we look to His cross and know that forgiveness is ours and the victory has been won.
