Our Conqueror

Where is the lions’ den, the feeding place of the young lions, where the lion and lioness went, where his cubs were, with none to disturb? The lion tore enough for his cubs and strangled prey for his lionesses; he filled his caves with prey and his dens with torn flesh.  Behold, I am against you, declares the LORD of hosts, and I will burn your chariots in smoke, and the sword shall devour your young lions. I will cut off your prey from the earth, and the voice of your messengers shall no longer be heard.
Nahum 2:11–13

Our Conqueror
The Lord conquers and makes new by his Word. The Word is preached among his people. Water and bread and wine are combined to his command and included with his Word to forgive and restore. He does not save and protect from a distance. He comes down to fight for you and with you by his Word and in his Sacraments. The enemies of God are no match for this powerful Word. It is a two-edged sword that tears through and lays waste. Our God fits you with this sword for every situation and place. Our God is against your enemies and fights for you. No chariot, no horse, no young lion stands a chance against his defense. His Word seems insignificant. His sacraments seem a joke. Even as the world laughs because it thinks him weak when he claims victory by dying on the cross, the victory still remains ours. This God wins the victory in the gory death of Christ on the cross and his triumphant resurrection over death on Easter morning. He sends out the victory by his word declared. Apostles and pastors carry it to the far corners of the world. They carry it and proclaim it to you. They proclaim and the messengers of the enemy are stopped up. In the Word proclaimed, you are made new.
