Seek the Lord

Gather together, yes, gather, O shameless nation, before the decree takes effect—before the day passes away like chaff—before there comes upon you the burning anger of the LORD, before there comes upon you the day of the anger of the LORD. Seek the LORD, all you humble of the land, who do his just commands; seek righteousness; seek humility; perhaps you may be hidden on the day of the anger of the LORD.
Zephaniah 2:1–3

Seek the Lord
The Lord summons Judah to hear His call to repent. They acted as a shameless nation, and God’s burning anger was headed their way. This is not the picture of God we want to see. An angry God bringing forth His righteous and justified anger upon the unrepentant sinner. This is no place we want to be. It is like standing on a train track with no way to move. The train will not deviate or slow down. There will be an inevitable collision, one in which you will not survive. So what do we do? We are guilty o disobeying God’s Law; we have turned from His just decrees and acted wickedly. Left to our own devices, there is no hope. This is why we don’t hope in ourselves but in God. We are to seek Him, and He will deliver us to safety. The way to escape the Lord’s wrath is to turn to Him in humility to seek humility. The only righteousness that counts before God is the Lord’s righteousness, His power to save us. All who humbly trust in Him will be spared on the Day of Judgment. So we run to the foot of the cross, which our faith takes hold of, and there we find refuge and forgiveness. There life and salvation are given.
