The Lord is One
And the Lord will be king over all the earth. On that day the Lord will be one and his name one. Zechariah 14:9
The Lord is One
Long ago, the Lord reminded his people that he is One. This, of course, reminds us that we have a God that is three persons, yet at the same time, one God. Hear, O Israel, the Lord our God, the Lord is One. His very essence is love. His will is seen in his only begotten Son. When God wants you to see who he is, he shows you Jesus. The Lord shows himself to be King of kings and Lord of lords on the cross of Calvary. It is there that he gathers all people to himself. Just as the grain from many stalks of wheat come together to become our bread, and just as the many members of our bodies come together to be one body, so also Jesus gathers us together as one in him. He is our head, and we are his many members. Thanks be to God for his work among us to unite, to nourish, to forgive, to give life and salvation to his people. Jesus is crowned King at the cross, but he rises again and even makes death subject to him. If death no longer has mastery over Jesus, then it no longer has master over you either, because you are One with Jesus.
