The Lesson of the Fig Tree

29 And he told them a parable: “Look at the fig tree, and all the trees. 30 As soon as they come out in leaf, you see for yourselves and know that the summer is already near. 31 So also, when you see these things taking place, you know that the kingdom of God is near. 32 Truly, I say to you, this generation will not pass away until all has taken place. 33 Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will not pass away. The Lesson of the Fig Tree
We learn so much from the nature around us. Observing how the plants behave at certain times of the year give us a sign of the seasons. Up north, the trees are changing color. We know that it is fall. We know when it is time to harvest. We know when the figs are about to come out because of how the plant looks. So also we are given signs of the times. The Lord gives us promises. His Word is true. We know the times and we know when the Kingdom of God is near. The Lord prepares you and keeps you by his Word and Sacraments. He promises to take care of you through all your needs of body and soul. He has taken your sin and your death to his cross and has given you his life. We have the Word of Jesus. He is true to that Word. His promises are true. Remember the signs. He comes soon.
