The Blessing

In the name of the Father and the +Son and the Holy Spirit. Amen. Paul ends his second epistle to the Church in Corinth with what has become a common blessing in the church throughout the world. It highlights all three members of the Holy Trinity. This is the God that loves you and rescues you. The thing about benedictions is that your God wants his name to be put upon you and the blessings of carrying that name around to be yours. So the undeserved gift of Jesus’ cross and resurrection are yours. You are bound together in love by the Heavenly Father that sends forth his Son to rescue, to save, and to make new. You are grafted into the Church with other believers (the body of Christ) and Christ (the Head) by the sanctifying work of the Holy Spirit. This is the blessing that he places upon by proclamation. His Word performs. The very last thing your pastor says in the church service is very important. Stay around and receive the gifts of your God: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. In the name of +Jesus. Amen.
